William "Bill" Lynn Mitchell passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Maureen - together forever.
Bill was born on October 20, 1937, in Los Angeles, California. In the early 1950s, he and his mother, Edna, moved to Spokane, Washington. He attended North Central High School and graduated in 1957. Soon after, Bill joined the United States Army and later continued his service with the Washington Army National Guard, retiring with the distinguished rank of Command Sergeant Major (CSM).
On August 19, 1960, Bill married the love of his life, Maureen. Together, they built a life centered on family, service, and love, and raised three children. Bill proudly served his community as a firefighter with the City of Spokane Fire Department until his retirement. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts and the Shriners, and he took great pride in giving back to others. Known for his steady presence, Bill was always there when it mattered - for his family, friends, and community.
Bill is survived by son Rob Mitchell and his wife Lisa, their children Jordan and Mackenzie (Connor Vermillion) and great-grandchild Bennett; son Ron Mitchell and his partner Tim Hagan; daughter Jill Mitchell; niece Stephani Carlton and her children Devon, Corbin and Sydney.
A service in his honor will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery on November 14 at 9:45 AM, followed by a memorial at Riplinger Funeral Home at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Spokane or the Spokane Shriners in Bill's memory.
Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, devotion, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
