Robert Allen Nix, 69

It is with heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Robert Allen Nix on April 13th, 2026. His life was marked by faith, love, and service, and he now rests in the presence of Jesus Christ. As John 14:1–3 comforts us, "Let not your heart be troubled… I am going to prepare a place for you."

Robert was born on May 21st, 1956, in Moses Lake, Washington, to his parents, James Nix and Jean Dunlap. He was raised in Medford, Oregon, and attended Medford High School. His life took him between Sequim, Washington, and Medford, Oregon, as well as Santa Barbara, California, and Rapid City, South Dakota.

He shared his childhood with his parents and four siblings—one brother and three sisters. Robert served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. He worked as a Minuteman III missile engine mechanic.

Following his military service, Robert’s life continued to evolve quickly. He married Robin Montoya, who was pregnant with their first son, Erik. Together, they welcomed Erik into the world, followed by their second son, Ryan, thirteen months later, and finally a daughter, Kathy, five years later—a girl with curly hair and freckles to match.

Robert was a dedicated follower of Christ, committed to living out his faith and demonstrating love and kindness to others.

He is survived by his children: Erik L. Nix and his wife, Kady; Ryan L. Nix and his husband, Kyle; and Kathy D. Nix. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Meredith, Jordan, Natalie, Mikala, Ajanea, Keagen, Raymond Jr., Michael, Jacquelyn, Nevaeh, and Ashton; two great-grandchildren, Khamari and Chara Kay; and his sisters, Susan, Kathy, and Joan. He was preceded in death by his father, James, and his brother, David.

Throughout his career, Robert built a reputation as a skilled tradesman. At age 28, he founded his own landscaping company, and by age 30, he was managing an eight-person crew.

His passion for woodworking and craftsmanship was evident. He specialized as a master cabinet designer and builder, working on custom interior homes, interior design projects, and high-quality cabinetry— including projects for Marathon Coach tour buses.

Robert’s industry reputation was distinguished as one of the best in the Pacific Northwest. Faith was central to his life; his Christian beliefs influenced all aspects of his character and work ethic.

He loved sharing his skills and teaching others, particularly his son Erik, who proved to be an excellent student and motivated Robert to pass along his knowledge with patience and dedication. His other children explored diverse paths—technology and healthcare—each motivated by similar integrity, grace, and purpose.

Beyond his professional life, Robert enjoyed playing disc golf with his children, creating landscape art, and designing waterfalls and ponds. He was passionate about politics, loved water sports such as paddleboarding and kayaking, and was an avid billiards player from his teenage years until his final days. Together with his son, Robert developed a portable disc golf basket with hopes of sharing it widely within the disc golf community.

He was also a dedicated supporter of the Oregon Ducks football team and had a deep appreciation for college football.
