Mark Powell was born on July 26th, 1957 to Nada (Bishop) and Allan Powell Jr. in Missoula, Montana. He passed away with his family at his bedside on October 27th, 2025.
After a brief time in Missoula and later Twin Falls, ID the Powell family moved to Spokane, WA. Mark would call Spokane home for the rest of his life graduating from Shadle Park High school in 1975 and Eastern Washington University.
As a child, Mark was active in the Boy Scouts and later the Explorer Scouts, where he took part in numerous Search and Rescue missions across the Pacific Northwest. His love of learning, curiosity, and tinkering were lifelong traits. Whether it was a book, computer, or new gadget, Mark could lose hours exploring how things worked.
In 1987 Mark married his wife Kathy. Together they raised their daughters who were Mark’s pride and joy, until his grandchildren came along and took that title. Mark’s professional career followed the ever-changing frontier of technology until his retirement in 2023 from his final position as a Senior Network Support Engineer at F5 Networks. In his later years, Mark enjoyed traveling on cruises with Kathy and serving his community. He served as the Parliamentarian for the Spokane County Democrats and on the church council at Salem Lutheran. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hjortedal-Powell; his mother, Nada; his daughters, Kirsten (Corbin) Spargo and Morgan (Brian) Thomas; his sister, Lynn Powell; and his beloved grandchildren, Gwen, Lexi, Cole, Ella, Henry, and Austin.
