Marilee K Campbell

Marilee K Campbell died quietly in hospice care on July 21, 2026. Born July 8, 1953, to F. Bruce and Sue Campbell of Spokane, WA, she attended Roosevelt Elementary, Sacajawea Middle School, and Lewis and Clark High School, eventually receiving a master's degree in art history from Eastern Washington University.

Marilee was drawn to musical theater and performed in many theater productions at EWU and Spokane Civic Theater alongside her brother, Rick, and her father, Bruce. She spent several years in Seattle, but returned to Spokane to complete her education. Marilee eventually became an adjunct professor and academic advisor at EWU. Her gift of humor and dramatic storytelling made her a favorite among her students.

Marilee suffered from depression and anxiety in the wake of her brother Rick's death in 1985. Her struggles resulted in many years of prescription drug abuse, costing her important relationships and a serious decline in her overall health. She often cited how important it was to get help "before it's too late." Her family hopes that in being open about Marilee's struggles, someday it could result in someone seeking the help they need.

Marilee had a brilliant mind, regal beauty, a sharp wit and was quick to laugh, tease and poke fun of herself. She was a voracious reader, loving horror and murder mysteries most. Marilee firmly believed that a good education is the only asset that cannot be lost, a sentiment passed down from her mother, Sue.

Marilee leaves behind her sister, Janine Ballou; nieces, Renee Ballou and Madeline Ballou; her brother Gary Campbell; best friends Merrilyn and Judy; and the entire staff at Evergreen Residential Care in Spokane Valley. We could never adequately thank the Evergreen staff for their love, respect and fierce devotion to her. She loved them right back.
