Margery Berendt

July 5, 1932 — May 10, 2024

Spokane

Margery Berendt, 91, was born July 5th, 1932 in Post Falls Idaho to James and Ida Huff. She died peacefully in her sleep in the presence of family on May 10th in Spokane Washington. She spent much of her childhood living in Usk Washington.

Margery married Joe Berendt in 1952. Together they raised three sons on the family cattle ranch near Cusick Washington. She enjoyed working and had a strong work ethic, starting to pick up jobs as soon as her children were in school and continuing to work into her early eighties.

When the family farm was sold, Margery completed her education and earned an Associate’s degree at Spokane Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Working primarily in geriatric care, she was a Nurse for nearly fifty years, first practicing at the Newport hospital and nursing home. After moving to Spokane in the 1980’s, she worked in various healthcare facilities and for numerous private in-home patients.

Margery was a caring and devoted nurse to those she served. Family members of past patients would regularly contact her, remembering fondly and with appreciation the care she provided for their loved one.

Margery was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Joe in 1980, her son Lyle in 2018, her sister Mary and brother Bob Huff. She is survived by her sons Dan Berendt (Cindy) of the Spokane Valley, Paul Berendt (Beth) of Olympia and daughter-in-law Gail Berendt of Newport, her four grandchildren Lane, Michael and Michaela Berendt and Melody Brown and a Great-grandchild Connor Brown.

Margery will be interred at the Newport Washington cemetery. At her request, there will be no memorial service. Remembrances may be made in her name to Family Promise of Spokane, 2002 E Mission Ave. Spokane WA 99202.
