Janie Lea Sorensen

October 6, 1951 — May 8, 2018

SORENSEN, Janie Lea – Born on October 6, 1951 in Seattle, WA, entered into rest on May 8, 2018 in Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by parents, George E. and Viola W. Foster of Vancouver, WA. Janie went to be with her Lord and personal Savior Jesus Christ the Messiah. She accepted Christ into her life at 13 yrs. old and has served Him faithfully till her last breath. She said that the day after she accepted Jesus, He gave her, her singing voice which He wanted her to sing only His praises. She used her voice at Lewis Junior High and Hudson’s Bay High School and church touring choirs and dramas.  She did personal appearances for weddings and funerals.  During her school days, she was a part in a Hand Bell touring choir from The 1st Evangelical Free Church of Vancouver, WA. In 1972, she won “The National Grange Talent Contest’s Best of Show” award.  Janie was a member of the drama and choir departments at First Church of the Open Bible of Spokane, WA since 1983. At Christmas, she was a cleaning maid in the play, “the Gospel According to Scrooge.” Her cackle gave her away once on stage.  She loved performing, making people laugh and think about their relationship with Jesus.  It was the times behind the stage when the cast and crew would pray for the audiences which made it all worthwhile for her. Janie was a member of Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, Spokane, WA, since 2010.   Her homemaking hobbies included quilting, knitting, crocheting, singing, sewing, card making, and scrap booking. She is survived by her husband of 40+ years, Clifford Sorensen at their Spokane, home; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Diane Sorensen of Glendale, AZ; brothers, Terry Ellis of Abilene, TX and John Ellis, Jr. of Dublin, CA; sister, Jill Farris of Highlands, CA; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Janie loved giving to others and making people smile. It was a priority in her life.  The thing she wanted people to know was: “If you haven’t made Jesus as The Lord and Savior of your life – do it.   Jesus loved you and wants to bless you.” Opportunity for viewing will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 & 16, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N Division, Spokane, WA. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. also at Riplinger Funeral Home, interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
