Helen Lucille Christman

December 25, 1927 — February 1, 2021

Helen Lucille Christman was born to Christian parents on Christmas Day, 1927 in a home in LaFarge, Wisconsin. She was the 7th child of Chase and Vina Rusk, and the only girl. She was mostly raised on a farm home near Richland Center, Wisconsin, and during that time gave her life to the Lord. She went to Minnesota Bible College at about the age of 20, and while there, met her future husband, Cloyd Christman. They married in August of 1949. Cloyd had plans for the mission field, so about 4 years later, with 2 young children, they crossed the ocean in a ship to Japan. After language training, they went to Okinawa. A big adjustment from local farm girl to missionary wife, but she wanted to support her husband and serve God in ministry with him. They returned to the states about 4 years later. Cloyd preached in a small country church in Wisconsin for a couple of years. Then they moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where Cloyd worked for a Christian radio ministry. Helen worked for several years in nursing home settings during those years. They moved to Carl Junction, Missouri in about 1980. Cloyd worked for a missionary organization there until he retired. Helen worked for several years in the kitchen at a nearby Christian College. They were part of a Christian Church in Carl Junction for about 30 years, where they worshiped and served. They moved to Spokane, WA in 2015 to be with their daughters. Cloyd passed away in the hospital in 2018. Helen continued to live with her daughters, but during her time in Spokane, suffered a stroke and a serious leg fracture, leaving her unable to walk. She remained with her daughters till she went to be with Jesus on February 1st, 2021. Helen was a loving, faithful, wife, mother, and child of God. She loved to read, sew and even did some painting. She was kind and generous and had a great sense of humor. “She could make us laugh even with little speech”. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Titus and Kay Christman; a sister-in-law, Connie Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 8th at 12:30 p.m., at the River Christian Church, 4221 N Martin, Spokane, WA with John Hickman, Minister officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery, Spokane, WA.
