Harold Lloyd Vannurden, 91, of Spokane, Washington passed away after a brief convalescence on the morning of November 12, 2022. Harold was born on June 15, 1931, in South Haven, Minnesota, to Bernard and Ruth (Converse) Vannurden. Harold graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, Washington in 1950. Harold was a Navy veteran having served in the Korean War on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier with a rank of MML-3. Upon return from Korea, Harold married the love of his life, Wilma Marie (Rand) Vannurden in 1952. Together they adopted two children, Mark Vannurden (Jana) of Mesa, Arizona and Sharon King (Delvan Scraper) of Spokane, Washington. In addition to his military career Harold worked for and retired from the Dominican Sisters Convent where he enjoyed a career as Caretaker and Stationary Engineer. Known fondly as “Old Weird Harold” Harold’s humor and kindness was legendary and those who knew him have many stories to tell. He was known to be a funny, kind, gentle soul who was quick to strike up a conversation and share a story or joke with whomever he crossed paths. He was an avid hunter, rockhound, and gardener. Two of Harold’s favorite activities included square dancing and traveling the world with his companion Goldenia Banks of Pullman, Washington. In addition to being survived by his children, Sharon and Mark, Harold is survived by his brother Donald Vannurden (Audrey), grandson Eric Kingson (Liese) and great-grandchildren Phinney (12), Quinnlan (10), and Radley (7) Kingson. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife Wilma (1996), brother-in-law Ernie Abitz (2001) and sister-in-law Opal Abitz (2021). Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19th from 10:00 am to 12 Noon and Monday, November 21st from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Harold’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 North Division Street at 10:30 am and a graveside service immediately following at Spokane Memorial Gardens, 5909 Cheney Spokane Road at 12:30 pm.
