Goldenia C. (Howell) Banks, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 6, 2023, with family by her side.

‘Goldie’ was born in her grandparent’s home in Moscow, Idaho, on August 14, 1940, to Ross and Lillie (Petersen) Howell, who both preceded her in death.  She lived in Pullman, WA, for most of her life, graduating from Pullman High School.  Following High School, she attended Kinman Business University in Spokane where she was a graduate of their secretarial program.  She returned to Pullman where she married John D. Banks. Goldie began working at “The Bookie” at Washington State University, where she progressed in her long career in the general merchandise department, until she retired.  Following her time in Pullman, Goldenia moved to Chattaroy and then to Spokane where she was living at the time of her death.

Goldenia is survived by her children, Allyson K. Roxby (Arthur) of Camp Verde, AZ and Christian R. Banks (Maureen McAtee) of Chattaroy, WA.  Her Grandchildren, Caitlin Dutrow (Brandon), Kyle Roxby (Sara), Abigail Sobota (Nicholas), Jacob Banks and Josie Banks, and Great-grandchildren Madeleine Roxby, Evelyn Roxby and Hagen Dutrow.  She is also survived by her loving brother, John Howell, of the family farm in Pullman.  Her life-long friend, Jackie Knight, currently of Spokane and several former sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Goldenia enjoyed quilting, especially applique, and loved taking classes and always had projects in the works.  She also loved square-dancing and was a member of several local clubs. Square dancing is where she met her beloved companion of many years, Harold Vannurden, who recently preceded her in death.

Services for Goldenia will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. Division St., Spokane, WA, with her son-in-law, the Reverend Dr. Arthur T. Roxby III, officiating.  Interment will be in the Pullman Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
