Listen to Obituary

Frederick Herrick passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the age of 95. Fred was born to Earl and Laura (nee Montour) Herrick on November 3, 1930. He was the fourth of five children. He was born and raised in a homestead outside of Colville, WA. He worked as a logger, miner and farmer in his younger years. He was a proud veteran, joining the Marine Corp in 1950 and staying for 12 years before switching to the Air Force for 10 years. He fought in the Korean War when he first joined the Marines. He retired as an SMSgt (E8) in 1972. After working various jobs in Lewiston, ID, he went back to college at Lewis-Clark State College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He then went to work for the Idaho Department of Labor, where he worked as a veteran representative for 15 years.

He is predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Charlene Herrick, his brothers; Kenneth Herrick and Marlin Herrick, his sister; Louise Alderson and his daughter Sheila Herrick.

He is survived by his sister Bonnie Baker, his sons; Otto (Anna Marie) Burden, Scot (Gwen) Burden, his daughter; Leona (Don) Tetreault, his five stepchildren; Ron (Reta) Gibson, Robert Gibson, Randy (Linda) Gibson, Rick (Donna) Gibson and Angie (Tom Brown) Gibson and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Fred loved the mountains. They were his sanctuary when the world got to be too much. Whether it was St. Joe National Forest in Idaho or the homestead outside of Colville, he loved to escape to the mountains. In his later years, he especially enjoyed camping at his sister’s place outside of Colville. He got the best combination of personal space and time, and visiting with her.
