It is with heavy hearts and deep regrets that we announce the death of Captain Frank W. McCauley III (retired). Captain McCauley answered his last call on June 25, 2026. A dutiful firefighter, devoted husband and diligent father, Frank’s presence will be missed.
Sometimes it seemed as if wherever fires raged in Spokane Captain Frank McCauley was there. Frank began his career with the Spokane Fire Department in 1964 at Station 5. And as a flame will surely rise, so too did Frank’s career. He was rightfully proud of his calling, though he did not brag or boast. Instead he instilled in his family his own sense of duty (and unrelenting fire-safety).
Frank is survived by his wife Atsumi and children Frank, Vicki, Terry, and Robert.
Our Frank not only shared his sense of duty but his love of nature as well. Whether fishing along the rolling Columbia River or hunting the foothills of North Idaho, Frank was never far from family and friends.
Though he may have been called home, Captain McCauley will always be the proverbial fireman; they never die but burn forever in the hearts of those he saved.
Thank you for saving me.
