Delores June Hazen went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 26, 2026.
Delores was born on March 16, 1929, to Fred and Amelia Schacher in Washburn, North Dakota.
During the Great Depression, her family journeyed farther west in search of work. Adding to the struggles of that time, her mother passed away when Delores was just nine years old, leaving her father to care for eight children. Delores helped raise her younger siblings and worked hard to help support her family. Through these experiences, she learned the value of hard work, appreciation for every dollar earned, and a deep reliance on her faith-qualities she carried with her throughout her life.
After moving west, Delores met Don Hazen while working at Pyramid Orchards. They were married on August 7, 1947, and in 1952 settled in the Wenas area, just east of Wenas Lake.
Together they raised four children on their dairy farm. They became well known throughout the national dairy community, and in 1962 were honored as Dairy Family of the Year. Delores was also a longtime member of the Yakima Dairy Wives Club.
Delores was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes for her children as they grew up on the farm. She was also a wonderful cook, a skill she learned from her mother-in-law and perfected over years of preparing meals for her family. Her homemade rolls, fudge, and divinity were unmatched and will be fondly remembered by all who enjoyed them. She also loved crocheting, creating blankets, scarves, and hats for her family that will be cherished for generations.
She was a devout Christian from a young age and found great joy in attending church and Bible studies. She enjoyed watching Robert Schuller and Jimmy Swaggart, as well as listening to worship music. If you ever wished her a happy birthday or mentioned it approaching, she would smile and say, "Yes-March 16th, 3/16, just like John 3:16!" Her life was centered on her Savior, and her strong faith inspired those around her. That faith is her greatest legacy.
Later in life, Delores started to lose her eyesight and eventually became fully blind. Despite this challenge, she remained remarkably positive, often saying, "I can't complain," even though most people in her situation certainly would. She continued crocheting potholders and bottle openers for friends and family, relying on her sense of touch and saying, "My fingers are my eyes!" She used assistive technology to read her Bible, and when that became difficult, she listened to Scripture and other Christian and inspirational audiobooks on her "talking book" device. She also attended Bible studies at her apartment complexes, even though she could not see those around her.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hazen; her daughter, Donna Mayer; and her siblings Eunice, Lori, Harriett, LaVern, and Fred. She is survived by her children: Diane Dank (Terry), Doreen Thompson (Terry), and Dan Hazen (Caren); and her grandchildren: Penny Thoeke (Jim), Danielle Kinard (Joey), Dawn Johnson (JJ, Heather Chronister (Adam), Michael Stobie (Stephanie), Tyler Hazen, Josh Hazen (Candance), and Davis Hazen. She is also survived by 12 very cherished great-grandchildren, her sister, Francis, her brother, Jim, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends Julisa Green, Carrie Ray, and Richard Walters.
Delores' beautiful soul touched many lives. Everyone who met her knew what a sweet and precious woman she was. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
My mind still talks to you, My heart still looks for you, But my soul knows you're at peace.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
