Betty Jo Benway

Betty Jo Benway, 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.  Betty was born on December 28, 1941 in Augusta, GA to Henry and Josephine Griffin and raised in Douglas, GA.  She joined the Army after graduating high school where she met and married her husband of 56 years, Warren Arthur (Ben) Benway.  They moved to Spokane, WA in 1965 where they raised their three children. 

Betty loved spending time with her family, especially cooking meals and making homemade ice cream in any flavor that her family or friends would request.  She loved spoiling her 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and took great joy in sneaking them sips of her favorite drink, Diet Dr. Pepper, at an early age.  She was an avid reader and always had a romance novel or 2, or 3, by her side and always made a point of reading the last chapter first.  

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sheri Benway, grandchildren Elizabeth (Karl) Kohler, Rebecca (Christopher) Enos, Nicholas (Ashley) West, Christopher (Ashley) West, great-grandchildren Dallas, Kaitlyn, Kamden, Easton, Jade, Keely, Alexcia, Rowena, Kellyn and Jaxon of Spokane, WA and her brother Emery Griffin of Douglas, GA.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben, her two sons Dwayne and Gary and her siblings Elizabeth (Wannie), Henry (Tommy), Harry, Jesse (Dickey), William (Red) and Charles.  

The family would like to thank Brookdale Memory Care for taking such great care of her over the past two years and Hospice of Spokane.
