In 1964, at the age of 23, he was called on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission where he served honorably for two years. In July of 1971 he married Patricia Ann Findlay. Together they have two children: William Thomas and Ryan Scott Warnick. He and Patricia divorced in 1977.
