George A Frantz

December 27, 1925 — September 5, 2016

George was born in The Dalles, Oregon to James and Matilda Ellard-Frantz, on December 27, 1925, the youngest of 13 children. He spent his childhood in Eastern Oregon. George joined the Navy at age 17 and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He returned to The Dalles, obtained his GED and attended Eastern Oregon College in La Grande. He started his banking career January 1, 1948 working at The First National Bank of Oregon. George married his wife Iva Mae Kniesteadt in 1948 and they celebrated 68 years of marriage, raising three daughters. The family moved to Spokane in 1963, where he continued his career. He was a banker for 42 years. He is survived by his wife Iva Mae; daughters, Susan (Jim) Kappen, Juline (Tom) Overhauser, Kimberly (Jim) Kasey, all of Spokane; six grandsons, Chris and Brett Overhauser, Ben and Ross Kappen, Dallas and Jacob Kasey and one granddaughter, Kyla Kasey-Jones. George also had six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Services will be Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2404 N. Howard St., Spokane, WA. Private entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spokane Veterans Home, 222 E. Fifth Ave., Spokane, WA.
