Mitzi I. Mortensen

May 21, 1933 — October 24, 2015

MORTENSEN, Mitzi I. (Age 82) On Saturday, October 24th at 4:10 p.m. our precious sister took the hand of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her spirit peacefully ascended into Heaven. Mitzi, the first child of Tage and Ruby A. Mortensen, took her first breath of life on May 21, 1933 at the family home in Momence, Illinois. The first twelve years of her childhood were spent in the small town of Grant Park, IL. The family then moved to Spokane in 1945. Mitzi spent most of her life living on the family farm near Marshall, Washington. In her elder years Mitzi moved to California where she was lovingly cared for by her sister Sandra. In August 2015 she returned to Spokane. Always an excellent student, Mitzi attended Marshall Grade School, Cheney High School and Eastern Washington State University. Mitzi was a lifelong Christian. She faced the challenges in her life with grace, dignity and an unwavering faith in God and Jesus Christ. She faithfully studied her bible every day. There were times in her life when she was sick and even near death but with the help of modern medicine, the grace of God and her strong faith and prayers, she was made well again. We cannot help but to believe that there is a special place in Heaven for our kind and beautiful sister, Mitzi. Mitzi was preceded in death by our parents Tage and Ruby Mortensen. She is survived by her four siblings: Sonja V. Abate (Bob) of La Quinta, CA; John W Mortensen M.D. (Marcia) of Arroyo Grande, CA; Sandra J. Carr (Jim) of Yucaipa, CA and Karen M. Law (Lou) of Marshall, WA. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and many greatnieces and nephews. A special thank you goes out to her very professional and compassionate caregivers at Royal Park Health and Rehabilitation Center, especially: Lucy, Fawn, Sherry, Stacy, Candice, Valerie, Phil and Yuri. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and kindness that they bestowed upon our sister. We are also deeply touched by the love and support given to Mitzi by her friends Kristie and Joyce at Royal Park. There will be a graveside service for Mitzi at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
