Stanley R Stirling

Stanley R. Stirling, age 70, of Spokane,Passed peacefully at his home on Sept. 5, 2015 from complications of a stroke. Riplinger Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements.  The family will hold their readings to remember Stan at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM.  The burial service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Medical Lake on Friday, October 16th, 2015 AT 1:30 PM.  A celebration of Stan's life will be held on Saturday, October 17th,  2015 at Taylor Engineering’s Spokane office from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Stan was born in Chewelah, WA to Louis and Katherine Stirling. He grew up in Spokane, going to  St. Patrick’s School, Shaw Jr. High  and Rogers High School, which made him a very proud resident of Hillyard.  Stan graduated in 1963 and immediately joined the U.S. Army, serving as Airborne/Recon. He was stationed in Germany, where he met and married his wife of 49 years, Inge, in 1966. In 1968, he was deployed to Vietnam.  When he returned to Spokane to join his family, Stan began his engineering career as a Land  Surveyor, while still serving with the Army Reserve.  Stan went on to have a successful career with Taylor Engineering as a Designer and Principal. He also served on the County Planning Commission Chair. After 30 years, Stan retired as Principal Emeritus from Taylor Engineering.  He continued to work part time, however,  because his love for work was second only to his family, which he simply enjoyed the company of. Stan is survived by his wife Inge, sister Karon, brother Robert, 3 sons and their spouses: Ray and Erin, Tom and Janel, Karl and Tina, all the grandchildren:  Kaitlynn, Alec, Tyler, Jordan, Kurtis and Konnor, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Katherine, his oldest brother Chuck, oldest sister Sharon and youngest sister Sandra. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be given to Hospice of Spokane, which the family wishes to thank for their professional and compassionate services.
